Legal Notice: Legal Information and Individual Advice

This legal notice explains the difference between an article about immigration rules and advice about an individual case. Legal information on the portal describes categories, documents and general procedural questions. It does not establish what an authority will decide for a particular applicant.

Here, legal advice means an assessment of a legal question using the relevant facts and applicable law. Such an assessment may require documents, status history and clarification of circumstances. Reading a guide does not create a professional engagement or establish that someone has accepted your case.

General information and personal assessment

A publication can explain common residence categories without determining which one fits your circumstances. Similar relocation goals can involve different requirements because of nationality, residence, family connections or previous decisions. A Nigerian applicant should not assume another person’s checklist is applicable merely because the destination is the same.

Use an article to identify questions and appropriate official sources. A personal assessment must address your actual circumstances. A paragraph, another applicant’s example or a provider’s advertisement is not a substitute for that work.

Seeking immigration legal advice

Define the question before appointing a professional: eligibility, document review, refusal consequences, a status change or representation. Ask who will provide the advice, which jurisdiction it concerns and what the engagement includes.

  • Identify the adviser and the legal entity contracting with you.
  • Check any professional authorisation relevant to the proposed activity.
  • Agree the questions and documents to be reviewed.
  • Distinguish advice fees, casework charges and government payments.
  • Clarify whether follow-up answers or representation are included.

A consultant title or business registration does not establish permission to undertake every form of legal work. In its UK-specific guide, GOV.UK identifies registration with the Immigration Advice Authority (IAA) or membership of an approved professional body. It also directs readers to check whether the adviser charges a fee. Other destinations have their own arrangements; this is not a universal licensing rule.

Messages to the editorial team

The website’s contact channel is for editorial matters. Sending a message is not an application to an authority, an instruction to a lawyer or an agreement for representation. Do not rely on an editorial reply to meet an application, appeal or renewal deadline.

A question about a publication normally needs only its address and the disputed passage. Do not send passport scans, banking details or relatives’ documents without a clear need and an agreed secure channel.

Translations, documents and decisions

A translation does not make an explanation an official interpretation of law. Where a category name or instruction is unclear, check the original source and the competent authority’s guidance. Readers in Nigeria should confirm requirements for their nationality, residence and filing location.

A professional may assess or prepare a case without controlling the government’s decision. Neither a publication nor payment for advice establishes a guaranteed approval, fixed processing time or exemption from further enquiries.

How this differs from the disclaimer

The disclaimer addresses use of website content generally. This notice addresses the narrower boundary between general legal information and personal legal advice. Neither page claims to cancel every reader right or every obligation of the website operator.

Common questions

How does legal information differ from individual advice?

A publication explains general issues. Individual advice assesses particular facts and applicable law within an agreed scope; reading an article does not establish that a professional has accepted the case.

Does business registration authorise advice about every country?

No. Identify who will perform the work and any authorisation required for that activity in the relevant jurisdiction. Business registration and professional permission answer different questions.

Can an editorial message replace an official appeal?

It does not file an appeal with an authority or preserve its deadline. Check the applicable official procedure and channel, independently or with your chosen professional.

What should I agree before paying for advice?

The question, adviser, jurisdiction, documents, deliverable and fee. Clarify follow-up answers, casework, representation and government charges separately.
