China, with its rapidly developing economy and attractive opportunities for its citizens, has become a popular destination for immigrants from all over the world, including Russia. In recent years, the number of Russians immigrating to China has been growing steadily. But what are the reasons for this trend and what does the process of immigration to China consist of – you will find out in this article.

Why people want to immigrate to China?

There are several reasons why people want to immigrate to China. The most common are:

  1. The lucrative job opportunities. China’s economy is growing rapidly and competitively, and with it the number of jobs. Many immigrants, including Russians, are attracted by the variety of jobs on offer, the chance to work for the world’s wired companies and earn several times more than they did before relocating;
  2. Quality of life. In recent years, the average standard of living has risen in many Chinese cities, especially in Beijing and Shanghai. China is currently considered to have the strongest economy in the world, which undoubtedly has an impact on the quality of life of both native Chinese and immigrants;
  3. Education. The People’s Republic of China is becoming increasingly popular among immigrants wishing to study abroad. This is due to the fact that it is financially much more affordable than in Europe, for example, but the country’s universities are still ranked ahead of ‘more expensive’ countries in many ratings.

What programs can be used to immigrate to China?

Various programs can be used to immigrate to China, including:

  • Employment. One of the most common ways to immigrate to the Republic of China is through employment. You can obtain a work permit by asking your employer to sponsor your application;
  • Business. Those wishing to set up a business can apply for an investment business visa. This requires you to invest significant funds in a Chinese company/project or establish your own business in the country;
  • Education. Those wishing to study in China can apply for a student visa. To do this, you must enroll in a Chinese educational institution and provide proof of financial means. Long-term residence permits can be extended by getting a job;
  • Property. After investing a certain amount of money in real estate in the country, applicants for citizenship can obtain a TRP and, in the future, a PRP and citizenship (if all the necessary requirements are met);
  • Kinship ties. The PRC allows close relatives (spouses, children, parents and ancestors) to be invited to the country;
  • Voluntary work. Only religious denominations and international humanitarian missions (by sending an invitation to the migrant) can contribute to obtaining a residence permit on this basis.

Who cannot immigrate to China?

Although immigration may be welcomed in China, there are certain criteria that must be met in order to qualify for immigration. Some of the factors that may disqualify an individual from such eligibility include

  • Criminal record: Individuals with a criminal record may be denied immigration;
  • Health problems: applicants with certain medical conditions may be refused a visa;
  • Lack of financial means: Individuals who do not have the financial means to support themselves in the PRC risk having their visa application refused.
